I gave up carbs for lent.
Actually, I gave them up about 10 days ago.
I put on some extra weight over the winter, topping out the scales at one point at 255. Thats about the heaviest I've ever been.
I made a concerted effort to work out and watch what I ate after Christmas. I belong to our city rec center and redoubled my efforts to spend time there. My weight went back and forth, getting down below 240 a few times, and then going back up on the weekends, and other days I wasn't watching what I was doing.
Bob wanted to lose a few pounds too, and cutting carbs is something that really works for him. We started on the Monday of last week, so it has been 10 days so far. SO many no's. No bread, rice, potatoes, sugar... basically everything that isn't a meat or green vegetable.
Today at the rec center I was back below 240. I would like to be back at 220, which was about where I averaged when I lived in San Francisco.
I'm not hating the Atkins low-carb thing. We've been really creative in finding ways to eat meals that are familiar with us, but without the carbs. Cauliflower mash, stuffed peppers, fajitas in lettuce cups, etc.
This strict induction phase of (I'm too F)Atkins will go on for another week, and then we'll start introducing other types of veggies, fruits and complex carbs (brown grains).
